A Unified User Management Interface

Designed for Apple (Claris) in 2022

This project was designed for Claris Studio, a cloud-based data collection and management platform created by Claris, a subsidiary of Apple, Inc. During development, we identified an opportunity to combine the pre-existing pages for user management and group management into a singular experience. The new unified user management page would combine the functionalities its predecessors while also laying the groundwork for future functionality.

Existing Design

The current users group has limited functionality, and no way to manage groups. Only two roles are available, and there is only room for roughly one more. Only action items are to add a new user or remove a current one. Line items are not interactable outside of the role toggle and the “…” menus.

Ideation

Both the user management and group management pages were extremely limited in functionality. Combining these two interfaces provided an opportunity for improvement. The goal was to lay the groundwork for additional functionalities while also providing usability fixes. Instead of pigeon-holing users into performing an action the way that I thought best or the majority of users thought best, I wanted to provide multiple ways to accomplish the same action with the thought that most users first attempt to perform an action would be the correct one.

After intial concepts and internal user testing, I was able to create detailed mockups describing the look and functionality of the new unified user management experience.
